Standing frame for learning to walk WalkStander Sport – Principle of operation

Based on configuration (WS-S)-(R)-(AD)-(L)-(AD) ), (WS-S)-(R)-(AS)-(L)-(AS) )

The Standing frame for learning to walk WalkStander Sport is a mechanical device without any external power sources. The walk is carried out only with the help of the hands of the user or the caregiver, and the hands are used only for walking and are not necessary to keep the body in standing position. The WalkStander Sport in (WS-S)-(R)-(AD)-(L)-(AD) / (WS-S)-(R)-(AS)- L)-(AS) consists of a walking stabilizer equipped with a base on wheels, four vertical side brackets , pelvis corset with hip joint modules and a crotch support. The gait stabilizer is equipped with a left leg gait mechanism and right leg gait mechanism together with Active Drive / Active Step ankle orthosis

Walking in a standing frame

Slightly pull up the lever of the left leg gait mechanism. The knee will bend in the knee joint, the leg will rise up and the device will move forward. Lower the lever. The corset with your pelvis will lower and your foot will be placed on the ground. Your left leg has taken a step. Now do the same with your right hand. Your right leg has taken a step. That’s how you start making steps. As time passes and you gain experience, your gait will be smooth and will require no effort.

Change of walk direction.

Pull the left lever up, turn the lever slightly to the right and push the lever down. Pull the right lever up, turn the lever to the right, the device turns to the right, push the lever down. Repeat the action as many times as needed to change the direction of gait.

Pull the right lever up, turn the lever slightly to the left and push the lever down. Pull the left lever up, turn the lever to the left, the device turns left, push the lever down. Repeat the action as many times as needed to change the direction of gait.

Crotch support.

The WalkStander Sport is equipped with a crotch support that stabilizes the position of the torso in a standing position, supports the gait. It can take two positions.

– Vertical (neutral) position, necessary when rising from a sitting position to a standing position and when returning to a sitting position

– Horizontal position (working position) while walking.

Center of gravity during walking

During walking with bending the legs in the knee, the center of gravity cycles up and down. This is a necessary condition for anatomical gait. That is why the WalkStander Sport has been equipped with a special mechanism of changing the position of the center of gravity, activated by special levers and locks. During walking, the human center of gravity makes small up and down movements. The center of gravity is in highest position when standing with legs together, while in the stride position it lowers by an average of about 2.5 cm. During walking, the pelvis corset (with the crotch support attached to it ) constantly make up-down movements, just like the entire torso of the user, which makes the gait light, comfortable and close to the anatomical gait of a non-disabled person.
